The declaration of Refrigerants and Other Synthetic Greenhouse Gases and products containing these gases as a priority product in 2020 requires them to be effectively managed under an accredited product stewardship scheme with mandatory participation.

Proposed changes to the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme regulations would allow anyone to remove and export HFCs or PFCs for destruction, including those gases contained in goods, without participating in a product stewardship scheme, whether the scheme was regulated or not.
