Recovery, also known as the Trust for the Destruction of Synthetic Refrigerants, occupies a unique position within industry, as our trustees represent the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, the motor trade automotive air conditioning sector, refrigerant wholesalers, chemical companies who manufacture and distribute refrigerants, together with the dairy industry and the retail grocer’s association, representing large "end users" of refrigerants.
Recovery is New Zealand's single product stewardship scheme for the safe disposal of refrigerants. It is a voluntary scheme that is accredited by the Ministry for the Environment under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.
The announcement, made by Associate Minister for the Environment Eugenie Sage, declaring synthetic refrigerant gases a priority product under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008, means a co-designed and regulated product stewardship scheme, along with specific product controls, will have to be established for the gases at their end-of-life.
